Jurors’ Statement:

It is never an easy task to jury an exhibition. Every artist has a particular vision, and judging that hard work and talent is very difficult. We both have had our work juried over the years, and it can be heartbreaking to not get selected for an exhibit. But, we have found that we need to have a tough skin in this field of work, and entering these juried shows made us better artists.

We were honored to be asked to jury, and we did not take this task lightly. We individually considered each entry, looking at the photos supplied by every artist with four or five viewings. We met through zoom, and had a lively discussion about the merits of each work. We took into consideration the artist’s point of view, consistency of entries (if more than one), actual sizes of the work (with imagination as we looked at computer screens), materials used, and our personal subjective opinions. We hope that we were patient and understanding of the artist’s intent, and we chose the works that spoke most strongly to us.

In the end we selected works of art that we would look forward to seeing in person in a gallery setting. There is no specific theme that threads the works together, but we hope the work included in this exhibit shows imagination, talent, and thought-provoking stories – art that well represents the talent and energy abundant in the Arizona art world today. – Chris Jagmin and Mary Meyer
