Nearly one-hundred works of art were entered into the show. Juror Robert Gentile a had the daunting task of selecting the work for the exhibition. Thirty-eight pieces were ultimately selected for the show.
Meet the Juror….
Robert Gentile
Residing in Phoenix, AZ since 2008, much of Roberts work is derived from his graffiti roots as a kid growing up on Long Island, NY. He has morphed those influences into what he produces today. His identity as an artist, he believes, is constantly trying to define itself as he continuously strives to grow and learn as a professional artist. “There is an aesthetic beauty in everything around us and I try to incorporate my life’s experiences into what I produce. The therapeutic benefits of being able to express myself through art has also saved my life.” he says. He describes his work as Urban Contemporary and uses a variety of mediums in his work from spray paint and acrylics, to pastels and markers.
Professionally, he owns and operates a co-working artist studio in Downtown Phoenix called Grand Arthaus*. He also manages and curates Sisao Gallery located right next door. He holds a BFA and an MBA and has aspirations of one day running his own non-profit organization that revolves around Art therapy for kids. He has worked as a mural artist, graphic designer, art teacher, and has volunteered with Free Arts of Arizona as a mentor. You can follow him on social media @rgentileartist
Award Recipients will be announced during the virtual awards ceremony and reception.

Pat Beans spent the first part of her life raising four children while working to build a business with her husband. When she was able to retire, she took off in the art world, taking classes, workshops, and going on painting trip workshops. Her world exploded with color. Now, at age 93, she may be a little slower and unable to do many of the things she would like to be doing, but she is still enjoying the art world. With her faith and sense of humor, you never know what she will be painting next.
I like painting with watercolor. It keeps you from getting too serious. About the time you think you are accomplishing something, the watercolor takes over and does its own thing. It's a fun medium.

I am enamored with the interaction of pigment and water – on the palette and on paper, and the spontaneity and transparency of watercolors. I am drawn to the play of light to create highlights and shadows and enjoy creating a three-dimensional effect on two dimensional paper. Florals and animals – wild and domestic – are my favorite subjects. I aspire to paint landscapes, and to paint in a looser style.

I am a lens-based art photographer in Phoenix, Arizona. I create emotionally responsive and thought-provoking art through Intentional Camera Movement (ICM) photography. By utilizing a slow shutter and a variety of physical movements, I create painterly and abstract images with my camera. ICM photography is a creative process that inspires me to see, feel and think differently about my surroundings and creatively reimagine my environment in a new and unexpected way.
This image is part of a series, Multiplicity, that is an in-depth insight into the complexity of the neurodiverse mind. The beauty of impulsivity and hyperactivity. The fluidity, color and emotion of ADHD as it appears and disappears in the blink of an eye. Each image is intended to capture your attention, engage your thoughts and help you contemplate the flow of movement and the intricacy of multiple emotions.

Craig Anthony Lomas was born in Queens, New York in September of 1958. From an early age, Craig’s love of nature was very apparent. As a young boy working with the local animal shelters, Craig hand-raised orphaned squirrels, birds, and other small creatures from birth, then would release them back into the wild. Craig’s love of nature is only equaled by his love of drawing and painting, so it was only natural that the two were combined.
If my paintings have brought the beauty of nature and wildlife into people’s lives, and has made you smile, then I feel very fulfilled as an artist.

Native Arizona juried artist. The Native people, their art, history, culture and struggles are the things that move my heart and influence my art. I have lived most of my life in the western states and this exposed me to many tribes and their people. Their art is amazing and how they were able to create it from only materials available to them locally, is beyond comprehension. I have collected Native items for my entire adult life and they are the basis of my art.
Using only wood, wood burning and India ink, I try to create art that appears to be Native baskets and vessels. It is my humble attempt at paying homage to this incredible people.

The glow of a setting sun on the tree tops, the playful pattern of sunlight on the grass, colorful clouds at sunset; I paint to suspend these moments in time, to relive them again, and to share them with all who will look. My style is mostly impressionist. I want to capture the essence of the scene rather than its details. I hope you enjoy seeing The Master’s beautiful world through my eyes.

My artistic journey in North Phoenix explores a variety of media, including graphic montages, assemblage, collage and photographic weaving. Recent exhibitions include Interpretations VIII, Arizona Art Alliance, Big 2; Herberger Gallery, ExpoMetro Miami and ExpoMetro Barcelona.
My fine arts degree from Rutgers University and studies at Parsons School of Design shape and influence my current art.
My current two dimensional works are layered graphic montages which highlight primitive imagery and symbols. When we consider primitive imagery and ritual, we link our present human experience with that of our ancient ancestors.

I am very fortunate. I have always been in the Arts. Learning the notes on the piano from my Grandmother who was a Piano teacher. Listening to Classical Music that my Brother brought before me. Playing instruments. Becoming a Photographer. Practicing Counseling and Social Work for 42 years, which I see as another Artistic process. Becoming a Painter. I Create every day. I start with compassionate observation. I always have a camera with me. For me, Great Things Happen Where Arts Merge. I use Paint, Cameras and Digital Technologies. I aim for reciprocity between myself and my media. I love to be surprised in the act of Creation. My Artworks shown in this exhibition are all a result of these processes.
The Artworks submitted for this exhibition were Created utilizing the unglued assemblage technique. I select a base image. Then I apply collage pieces to this surface. With the unglued assemblage technique no glue is used. Objects can be moved about freely. After a high quality Photographic image is Created it is placed in Photoshop and further manipulated. It is finally printed on Hahnemuhle Photo Rag using a high quality Industrial printer. In my images I am committed, without apology, to Modernism. ,

Julie Gallatig better known to all as “Jules” is a native of Doylestown, PA. A small suburb of Philadelphia. She got her hands into the chemicals and watched the prints develop while working in the darkroom at Solebury School, New Hope, PA (‘93) and fell in love with Photography. Jules went on to study photography at the Rochester Institute of Technology and graduated with her Bachelors of Fine Art in 1997. Jules was honored in her senior year by having her work accepted into the RIT Photography Honors Show. After college she worked at a small family run portrait studio in Pittsford, NY. Here she gained experience in retouching, posing groups and learned about the industry of photography. In 1999, Jules welcomed her son, Karl into the world and put her energy into raising her kids (Clare, 2001.) Her camera was never far behind as she captured her kids growing up and volunteered photographing at their schools and events. Jules got back behind her camera more as her kids got older. Photographing families, children and traveling with a medical team to Haiti to document their mission. In 2020 she moved to Cave Creek, Arizona to be with her partner John, who she married in 2023. While exploring the desert Jules began finding peace and strength. She started to bring her camera with her and captured the pieces of the desert that spoke to her. Feeling the hardness while seeing the softness, simply brought her joy.
When I am photographing, the world around me is calm. The lens of the camera allows me to see things for what they are. It reminds me to step back and focus on the details of what has been or is being created. Photography grounds me and gives me permission to wonder and capture. I get to see the beauty in all that is around me. To see the colors that nature gives us, to breathe in the moment. I love to pass along joy and to inspire others to breath and push forward in life. Photography is the vessel that allows me to help others.

Larry J. Johnson is a contemporary artist whose work serves as a representational display of specific memories, cultural experiences, and creative vision. Born in Brooklyn, his artistic journey began in 1980 when, at the age of five, he actively sought to teach himself to draw. Having gained advanced skills in multiple disciplines over the years, he turned to painting in 2019, quickly achieved his own style and following as he transitions to full-time artist.
My current work focuses on the feeling of surrealism experienced as a New York native adapting to the desert landscape. Like a butterfly emerging from its protective cocoon, the overarching comfort of skyscrapers and greenery was replaced with an eerie yet liberating sense evoked by vast partially naked expanses of raw nature. My use of blended techniques and vibrant color captures its essence from an artistic perspective.

“Eye Candy” is how I view this lovely place called Arizona and that is what I wish to convey in my art. How can a person not look everywhere and see beauty. It is the light that covers the Valley with magic. The setting sun painting the McDowell Mountains with a pastel palette of the softest pinks, blues and lavenders. It is the light that makes a cactus flower’s pedal look almost transparent. It is the delicate, lacy light dancing on the ground filtered through a mesquite tree. The bold light hitting the rocks in an outcropping on the mountain giving them their strength and power. The wondrous light is the story I want my artwork to tell.
I have a BFA from Kent State University and have taken workshops with Daniel Greene, who painted JFK’s portrait, Carl Samson and Shammha Lee Prince. Portraits in Oils and color pencil, were the bulk of my work along with “House Portraits” in watercolor. I have won many awards in all mediums named above and have many of my works in both Public and Private Collections in Cincinnati. Was an active member in the Cincinnati Women Art Club. I am currently an active member in the Scottsdale Artists League, first a Show Chairman and now as the President. I also coordinate the Scottsdale Veterans Art Outreach Program. In Arizona I have participated in many shows such as the Desert Botanical Garden, Scottsdale Artists School, Adobe Mission show to name just a few. I was in the Heaven Gallery and now I am represented at the “Casa de Artista” in Scottsdale.

My desire to capture realism through varied techniques as well as exploring new ideas is my passion. I want the viewer to feel the expression of a person’s face, the strength of their personality, and the intensity of their lives. Evoking a pleasant emotional memory and fulfilling the viewer’s senses through my work would be the ultimate accomplishment for me.

I received my BFA from the University of Cincinnati, DAAP program, majoring in painting and then received by MA from Miami University, Oxford, OH. I taught art in both high and college while continuing to expand my own personal art growth. I taught at numerous High Schools, and developed AP art programs to advance opportunities for my students. I’m involved in numerous professional art groups and I have had a number of pieces purchased from my collection.
After I retired from a career of teaching art, I wanted to take this opportunity to actually create for myself. As a teacher, one wants to give their students their voice, creativity and the tools they will need to achieve this. Now it is my turn. So, I’ve completed southwestern sketches, painted and taken photographs of new environment for the purpose of learning more about it. I have experienced rodeos, ranches, truck cemeteries, western towns and walked through old graveyards. I fell in love with the western scenery and events that are truly unique and I want to explore more.

Patricia’s artistic inspiration is found in nature and throughout the Southwest desert she calls home. Her creative talents have garnered her awards in different mediums throughout her career and although she continues to challenge herself by exploring new avenues of artful expression, she finds peace and fulfillment in the creation of her resin masterpieces as she shares them with those who, like herself, are drawn to their captivating, hypnotic nature.
My art is about feelings and emotion and each piece mesmerizes and captivates the viewer through the intrinsic weavings of the colors as they intersperse with each other and uplift the imagination and spirit.

After Penny Deshur retired as a remedial reading teacher she took a gourd carving class and was hooked. She is a member of the Arizona and American Gourd Societies and a juried member of the Sonoran Arts League. Her gourds have been exhibited and won awards at the Sonoran Arts League and KiKi’s Cottage Galleries, Hidden in the Hills, Desert Foothills Library, and Wuertz Gourd Festival where she was awarded the AGS Artistic award.
Gourds vary in size, shape, and color and offer a variety of opportunities for design. I may begin with an idea and select a gourd that satisfies my need or the gourd may lead me to what it wants to be. I incorporate woodburning, carving, embossing, painting and other techniques. Each of my one-of-a-kind pieces has its own story and is designed with a balance of texture, color, balance, design and intricate detail.

Roger Wayne Fowler attended Lubbock Christian College and graduated from Abilene Christian College (University) with a BSed in Art in 1971. I have since taken classes in art and photography to advance my abilities in the art field. Currently I am immersing myself in the field of critiquing art.
My mother taught me how to color with crayons. She was adamant that I kept my colors within the lines and never scribble. I doodled with pen and ink in every class I was in during high school. I chose my colors and was particular about my clothes. I painted by numbers and had my first camera at age 10. I didn't like family pictures. I took candid interesting photos. I wanted different interesting depictions that caught the imagination. I had a roomate in college who was the school photographer which was the catalyst for me to major in art. I obtained a BSed in art. After college, art became a hobby mixed with photography. No one was in my life to point me in a direction to pursue art as a career so I became a sales person with a hobby of art and photography. I have developed a mixture of the two reflecting the art I do now. I am retired and consider myself a full-time artist and photographer. I have been called a graphic artist, a surrealist, and an object painter. In the last 3 years I have accumulated awards, have a following, and show regularly in local exhibitions. I want my audience to ask why, and I want to touch them emotionally.

Rupali Holmes is a computer engineer by education and career, and a visual artist at heart. She has been painting regularly and exclusively in watercolors since 2017 and has taken several online and in-person workshops to learn from accomplished watercolorists. Rupali is a juried member of the Arizona Watercolor Association and was recently invited to join Contemporary Watercolorists of Arizona. Her paintings have been accepted in several local juried exhibitions.

From her studio in Arizona, Sarah combines vivid colors, dynamic textures, and geometric forms to create bold abstract compositions. Sarah is inspired by the beauty of the Phoenix area, often using colors and abstracted shapes she sees along the hiking trail. Many of her pieces are introspective, a therapeutic release for emotions and challenges she experiences throughout life.
My work is inspired by the varying emotions and challenges that I experience in my own life. I believe that art can be a powerful tool for self-expression and healing, and I hope that my work can provide a sense of peace or catharsis to others. I find the freedom to focus solely on color and texture in abstract art to convey my story extremely fulfilling.

Focusing on painting but also using a wide array of mediums, ST Bycroft creates abstract, abstract ‘objects’ and surreal images. The purpose of each art work is to bring to mind the question: ‘What is that?”. He has some traditional training in painting and drawing but is basically self taught. During a 35 plus year career, he produced art on a personal level. Since retiring he is now pursuing his art full time.
Most of my work is visual art done as painting. However, experimentation with different types of media and materials, both 2D and 3D is something I pursue and enjoy. The subjects of my works are generally in the abstract / surreal areas with a focus on abstract objects using bright / contrasting colors and forms. The process of bringing an idea to life is a never ending thrill and surprise for me.
