A Show of Peace
A Show of Peace is in partnership with Arizona Art Alliance and First Studio Gallery
If art can be an act of resistance, it can also be a path to peace. A Show of Peace features artwork created that envisions the positive changes they long to see in the world. Art that reflects what brings inner peace—and how that peace radiates outward into community, society, and nature.
This exhibition celebrates harmony, balance, and renewal through diverse artistic expressions. This includes themes inspired by sacred geometry and the natural world, reminding us of the universal patterns that connect all living things.
Exhibition Dates: February 6 through March 31, 2025

Both portraits in this exhibit seek to highlight the extraordinary impact music has on the creation of visual art—music can translate the thoughts and passions the artist puts into their work into something that is felt by the viewer. Described as, “the way we decorate time,” music has been instrumental (pun intended) to Alison’s creative process for each of the works presented. Alison’s work is an expression of her fascination with the tensions and constant states of change present in life, and it aims to provide a space for conversation and reflection on these themes.
Alison Auditore is a visual artist and illustrator. Her fascination with the constant state of change and tensions in life were borne of experiencing a significant loss at a young age. She expresses her pursuit of understanding in her art using delicate line-work and stippling. Alison earned her BFA from the Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts. She has since participated in several art shows and exhibited work in galleries across the country, including Gallery 13, The Shemer Arts Center, and the Greater Phoenix Economic Council. Alison’s experience also afforded her the opportunity to serve as a guest curator for the Vision Gallery in 2023. In addition to her own artworks, Alison teaches art classes at the Edna Vihel Arts Center in Tempe, Arizona. Alison currently resides in Phoenix, Arizona. When she isn’t drawing, you can find her reading, listening to music, or powerlifting.

My work is inspired by my love of wildlife, especially birds, which became my source of peace during some of the hardest recent years. Birding Escapes began as a way to calm my mind during COVID, and it grew into a practice that reminded me how beautiful and resilient the world can be. I paint birds and animals in my own vibrant and imagined colors, from the exotic aracari I adore to my dreamlike purple horse, because they carry an energy and freedom that feels healing. These pieces reflect the quiet peace I found in nature and how that peace continues to shape my art.
Alma Telibecirevic is a Bosnian American artist whose work blends her classical training with her deep love of travel, wildlife, and the natural world. She began painting during the war in Sarajevo, where art became both a refuge and a way to make sense of chaos. Today her work celebrates global biodiversity through vibrant, imaginative interpretations of birds and animals that reflect her belief in art as a source of peace, resilience, and connection. Her paintings have been exhibited internationally, including in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Austria, the UAE, and the United States.

After a multi-decade career in visual communications, I feel fortunate to continue creating on my own terms. An inner curiosity drives me forward to explore avenues of visual communications. Photography and graphic design are at the core of my practice. Investigation into one area serves to inform the other. Through photography, I seek to create images that go beyond the limitations imposed by a camera lens. In an Instagram-perfect world, it can seem as though beautiful images have become ubiquitous. To counter this, I enjoy experimenting with digital tools to imbue my photos with interpretive styling.
Anne Brownfield Brown is a Tucson-based visual artist. She combines a love of photography with her experience as a graphic designer to create images that go beyond the limitations imposed by a camera lens. In an Instagram-perfect world, it can seem as though beautiful images have become ubiquitous. To counter this, Anne experiments with digital tools to imbue her photos with unique interpretations of the world. As someone who has lived in seven different states and traveled to 20 countries, she is particularly drawn to travel and landscape photography. Her camera eye gravitates to the details that make a region or location unique.

This series of prints are intended as affirmations in troubling times. I created them as a reaction to the deluge of negative media and messages circling us all today, and as a reminder that we are all as polarized collectively and we are as individuals. Finding my center in the midst of an increasingly chaotic world is often difficult – so here are my political propaganda posters. Drawing from Buddhism and ancient wisdom, I hope to create a still space in the world in which to restore and reflect on being.
Ben earned his MFA in Printmaking from the University of Minnesota in 2012. His work examines spiritual rebirth and growth through the lens of environmental resilience.
Since graduating, he has maintained a rigorous studio practice whilst teaching community print classes and workshops. He has served in a variety of roles in the mental health field, currently working as a recovery coach, helping unhoused, addicted or transitioning community members.
Brockman’s artwork reflects his passion for mental health in tandem with the healing power of art. He lives in Tucson, with his wife and two children.

Create Art Not War Dammit!
Acrylic Painting

$5,000
This painting, “Create Art Not War Dammit”, features ‘The Wild Guy’, an original creative character from Bullet’s ‘Creative Genius’ series. These characters epitomize the joys and frustrations of being an artist. The emotions portrayed in each painting are born out of Bullet’s personal experiences of being a lifetime artist. This painting in particular conveys the anger with governments that continually start wars. Bullet always says that if our Congress was comprised of more artists, our country would be much better off! Bullet created this acrylic painting from his original character drawing and added a bold, unique colorful, graphic background with a text message using lettering he also designed. Bullet started by creating a hand drawn sketch and color scheme for the image, then made the sketch into a digital line drawing, and had the drawing transferred to a substrate ready for him to paint. This acrylic painting measures 30” x 40” and is painted on Sintra board. Bullet’s fine art and photography has been purchased by discerning art collectors throughout the United States who appreciate his wide range of unique creativity.
Bullet is a Phoenix, Arizona based, contemporary artist whose striking original works are created using drawing, digital art and photography. He calls his art methodology Graphic Fine Art. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Parsons School of Design in New York City. Bullet worked 45 years as a highly awarded graphic designer, photographer and branding professional. At the same time, he continued creating and selling his fine art and photography. The fine art works that Bullet creates are guided by his personal and aesthetic interests. Bullet’s art, including fine art, graphic design and photography, has received over 70 awards for excellence and his work has been published online and in over 100 international books and magazines. Bullet believes that if everyone from an early age was encouraged to tap their inner artist, the world would be a much better place.

I am an artist of iterative questions and learning. I blend abstraction and metaphor to explore what it means to grow—individually and collectively. Though formally educated, my work resists hierarchy and invites people of all backgrounds into shared moments of reflection, curiosity, and reimagining. My visual language is simple, yet it points to complex truths, tracing the invisible threads between personal transformation and systemic shifts. At the heart of my practice is a belief: we don’t need to agree to connect and feel connected. My art offers space to consider the tensions, paradoxes, and hopes of being human—inviting each of us, and all of us, to notice, reflect, and imagine what’s possible … together.
Caron lives in Peoria, Arizona, and brings a lifetime of eclectic experiences—from working in family businesses and startups to teaching psychology and leading culture change initiatives in higher education. With degrees in speech and hearing sciences, business, and organizational psychology, her work blends academic insight with creative expression. Whether designing professional development programs, curating learning experiences, or making art, caron is drawn to the subtle shifts that make change possible. She is skeptical of hierarchies and has grown to love simple forms and big questions.

Being neurodivergent, I’ve learned that my pace and way of understanding things are different from others and at times cause confusion, but that difference fuels my creativity. In art, it allows me to express emotions and thoughts that words can’t. I take things step by step and work at my own pace and use my creativity as a way to communicate my emotions, thoughts, and memories that I always had trouble expressing to people.
My process allows me to be more intuitive, so I tend to start creating without a concept or plan and just let my emotions guide each piece. Every drawing or painting reflects a specific moment in time. Every piece represents a step in understanding myself and the and the world around me. A world that my mind can never comprehend or make clear of. I always have a plan, but this is the only time when I don’t and just create through emotion and not realizing why until later. The meaning just emerges naturally through time and is never something that is forced.
Being neurodivergent makes you different from others, and at times gets confusing. My work may seem random for a regular mind to handle, but each piece captures a part of my mental and emotional journey that I’m not only unlocking for myself but helping those create a better understanding for themselves. It teaches you about patience, emotion, and the acceptance of the mind and consciousness and realizing not everything has to be figured out like how everybody else does because why be like everybody else when you were born with your mind being wired differently.

After living many years in Eastern and Western Canada, California and Arizona, I now live and paint in Prescott, Arizona surrounded by our beautiful rose gardens and 180 degree views of the valley below and the mountains surrounding us. I love the Central Highlands where we live with its intense blue skies, incredible sunsets, and the sculptural beauty of the mountains and clouds in monsoon season. Springtime in the desert is a feast for the eyes as cacti burst into bloom and golden lichen covers the mountain-tops. Cougar, coyotes, deer and javalinas roam freely through our neighborhood, which is also inhabited by Roadrunners, Golden Eagles and Coopers Hawks. Inspiration springs forth and manifests itself in my studio where I create fanciful and impressionistic interpretations of my everyday life and surroundings.
While I work primarily with oils paints, I integrate acrylics, inks, collage papers and stenciling into many of my more whimsical paintings, as well as paint impressionist landscapes, animals, birds and flowers. I have participated in several solo and group shows in the U.S. and Canada and have received awards for many of my paintings.
Having painted since high school, I studied art at McGill and Concordia Universities in Canada, although I was never in a Fine Arts program. During my non-Art career, my creative outlet included making hand-built pottery, stained glass art and watercolor painting. Since 2010, I have been mentored by and studied with award-winning Canadian and U.S. painters: Trisha Adams, Harold Allanson, Larisa Aukon, Mary Gilkerson, Brent Lynch, Mike Svob, Derek Penix, Betty Carr and Robert Goldman. As a dual citizen, I have lived in Canada and the United States. In Canada, I was an Active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists (FCA) which is a juried level. In Prescott, Arizona since 2017, I have been Vice President and President of The Mountain Artists Guild 2018-2021 and Treasurer of Friends of the Prescott Library 2022 – 2023.

Searching for peace is like walking through a dark tunnel, guided by a distant light. The journey is slow and feels endless. It is filled with obstacles and fear. Peace invites patience, courage, and trust—reminding us that every step forward brings us closer to calm, clarity, and a brighter future waiting ahead.
I have been around photography all my life. I was fascinated by the many ways that light and chemicals could be used to enhance the finished picture. I took photography at the Maryland Institute of art. I learned advanced darkroom procedures for both black and white, and color printing.
As soon as Photoshop was released, I switched from the darkroom to the computer. Digital editing allowed me to enhance my images without the darkroom trial and error.
Now all my work is digital. However, I do sometimes miss the alchemy of the darkroom: the trays of chemicals, the slowly developing image, calculating exposures, and trying to guess the formula for the perfect photograph!

Grigorii Kniagnitskii
Haven
Digital painting
$100.
My work, ‘Haven,’ explores the theme of finding inner peace through the unconditional love and presence of a companion. For me, peace begins with stillness and a sense of security within one’s own sanctuary. The glowing cat in the painting serves as a metaphor for a living ‘island of safety,’ whose warmth and tranquility create a powerful barrier against the darkness. In moments of anxiety, this bond helps disperse the ghosts of negative thoughts, transforming the chaos of the world into a radiant space of serenity.
My name is Grigorii Kniagnitskii, and I am a motion designer and animator currently based in Arlington, Virginia. My creative work spans painting, animation, and illustration, often exploring the fragile intersections of mental health, emotional resilience, and human connection.
As a designer, I have been recognized as a winner and finalist in several competitions across the United States and internationally. Most recently, my work for the design contest organized by Six Point Brewery was selected as a finalist among more than two hundred entries and exhibited in New York. I have also participated in multiple art exhibitions in New York, Atlanta, and Virginia with my painting Smile Through the Chaos. My paintings have been noted for their introspective tone and symbolic use of light and shadow.

My paintings have always been my voice for the emotions I struggle to express—the hidden thoughts, buried feelings, and unspoken opinions I often keep to myself. Through them, I communicate what I don’t always feel safe or ready to say out loud. At the core of my work is a longing for peace, kindness, and acceptance.
I was born and raised in Southern California, graduated from Sonoma State University with an art degree and received a graphic arts certificate from UCLA. I moved to Mesa, Arizona in 2017 to pursue an occupational therapy master’s degree. Through a series of life altering events during Covid 2020 I rekindled my spiritually with painting, nature and the animals around me.

The emotional assault of distressing, bad news can be overwhelming. Sometimes, it’s better to step back from world events media to keep one’s sanity and find a place of calm. Blue Footed Boobies are amusing and their facial expressions capture the absurdity of humans. In the chaos, it’s comforting to remember that we are more alike than different, even though we don’t agree with one another.
I use a variety of media in my artwork, including oil paint, alcohol ink, India ink, black gesso, colored pencil . The random shapes from the alcohol ink flow and gesso imprinting suggest the resulting images.

I make art using whatever works, whether that’s digital drawing, traditional painting, or sketching. My recent pieces look like they’ve come straight out of a fantasy world, but they’re really about very real feelings: loneliness, the strange experience of growing up, and feeling like an outsider or an “alien.”
The main reason I make art is to get things out when I can’t find the right words. When I build these imaginative worlds and fill them with strange characters, I’m creating a safe place where I can be completely honest without being judged. My ideas come straight from my life—whether it’s dealing with heartbreak or just any social inconvenience —I take that energy and put it into the work.My work is also heavily inspired by the melancholic work of Tim Turton, Guillermo del toro and Ian Mckeever.
My process is often very spontaneous. An idea will hit me out of nowhere, and I write it down fast. I get into a zone by listening to my favorite playlist—from Sarah McLachlan to Young Thug—which helps the feeling flow onto the page. When someone looks at my art, I hope they feel a mix of wonder, a little sadness, and joy. I want them to see one of my strange characters and feel sympathy or amazement, finding something they connect with in something completely unusual.
Johnny Chatman is a self-taught, multi-disciplinary artist currently based in Tempe, Arizona, having grown up in Bakersfield, California. His practice spans various mediums including digital illustration, drawing, and painting, all unified by a distinct focus on fantastical, expressive world-building. Chatman’s work acts as a form of emotional transmutation, translating profound experiences of loneliness, isolation, and childhood memory into visually rich, imaginative narratives.
Known for his compelling character work, Chatman has built a notable reputation designing cover art for several underground musicians. His recent collaboration included designing a sold-out hoodie for the Texas-based brand, “ENTERNET.” Currently, Chatman is dedicated to expanding his exploration of feeling like an outsider, inviting viewers to engage with his strange and sympathetic characters with both wonder and deep connection.

My work is a quiet exploration of nature’s details—where light, shadow, and form come together in fleeting moments. Through close observation, I photograph petals, leaves, and organic structures that are often overlooked, revealing their intricate patterns and vibrant color. In a world shaped by constant digital noise, my images invite a pause—a chance to slow down, reconnect, and rediscover the serenity and wonder found in the natural world around us.
Julie Gallatig, known as “Jules,” is a fine art photographer whose journey began in a high school darkroom at Solebury School in New Hope, Pennsylvania, where she first experienced the magic of watching images come to life. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 1997, with her work featured in the RIT Photography Honors Show.
After gaining professional experience in a family-run portrait studio, Jules stepped into motherhood while continuing to document life through her lens. Her work has included family portraiture, volunteer photography, and humanitarian documentation with a medical mission to Haiti.
Now based in Cave Creek, Arizona, Jules draws inspiration from the desert landscape, finding peace and strength in its beauty and translating that connection into her photographic work.

My work explores quiet states of being through figurative and symbolic imagery, often centered on animals, light, and rest. For me, peace is not celebration or resolution, but rest. It is the moment an animal feels safe enough to lie down. This approach is reflected in this painting inspired by Bob Dylan’s song All the Tired Horses, which evokes repetition, exhaustion, and quiet surrender. Through restrained color and subtle symbolism, my work invites stillness and reflection, offering peace as something already present rather than idealized.
Julia Escobar is a Phoenix-based artist and art educator working primarily in painting. Her work centers on the exploration of inner states through symbolic imagery influenced by alchemy, animals, and light. Drawing from personal reflection, music, and nature, she creates contemplative works that examine transformation, rest, and the quiet processes of healing and renewal.

“Using my hands creatively brings my ideas to life, which I find exciting. Learning and exploring new processes to layer on existing skills gives me an opportunity to realize new depth in my work. Sometimes my hands guide the work, and at other times my hands are reacting to the media, helping me learn new ways to present my ideas through my work.”
Kathryn began making beads in 2000, after making one-of-a-kind apparel using methods from fibers and surface design. The transition from fiber to glass was seamless, her passion for color, texture and shape was easily fulfilled with glass as a medium.
Always seeking to keep her work fresh, she continues to add to my techniques.
A class reignited her interest in copper enameling which led to experimenting and ultimately launched her new work with metal and glass. Kathryn’s pieces are one of a kind, and the signature elements of her designs include many layers of glass and metals and the inclusion of murrinis (cross sections of patterned glass canes) and other decorations.
Kathryn is an active member of the Arizona Society of Glass Beadmakers, The International Society of Glass Beadmakers, Sonoran Arts League, Arizona Designer Craftsman and the Phoenix East Valley Beaders. Kathryn’s work has been published in the winter issues of The Flow Magazine and on the cover. 2014 cover artist,Sonoran Arts League Hidden in the Hills catalog, cover artist, Artisan Jewelry Times, January 2015 and Soda Lime TimesMarch 2016 cover and tutorial.

Kelly O'Brien | a walk in the woods
Kelly O’Brien
a walk in the woods
metal print
10 inches high x 46 inches wide
$250.
These images represent peace to me because I find peace and calmness in nature, in greenery, in the coolness of the morning, in the stillness of an insect soaking up the sun, drying the dew so they can go about their day. The image of Buddha represents ataraxia. Ataraxia is a Greek term meaning a state of serene calmness, free from worry and fear. Peace.
Scottsdale-based photographer Kelly O’Brien’s journey into photography began when she realized there was an entire world waiting to be discovered beyond the obvious beauty of scenic landscapes. Inspired by the endless variety of nature, and working primarily with a 100mm macro lens, Kelly often ventures into Arizona’s deserts, forests, and canyons. She can frequently be found crawling on her belly to get up close and personal with bees, bugs, and the tiniest of flowers, patiently seeking the perfect moment to capture their hidden beauty.
“I love how photography makes me slow down and really see the universe at my feet. There’s so much texture in a flower petal, such intensity in the armor of a grasshopper, and a vividness in the carapace of a ladybug that’s easy to overlook,” she reflects.
Kelly’s dedication to her craft has allowed her to merge her love for nature and the wild world with her artistic vision, inviting viewers to appreciate the subtle marvels that exist all around us.

My work explores fantastical landscapes filled with vibrant color and a sense of joy. From an early age, I recognized that pain and sorrow are universal experiences, yet how we respond to them shapes who we become. This understanding drives my creative practice: I channel my own experiences of pain into color, paint, and canvas, transforming them into visual worlds that reflect the beauty and resilience I see around me. Through my art, I aim to offer viewers a space of wonder, hope, and emotional renewal.
Kimberly Nina began her life long passion with art when she began oil painting at the age of ten. She has studied at The Massachusetts School of Art and Design, Southern CT State University and the Burren College of Art in Ireland. She holds degrees in Studio Art and Research Psychology. After a 25 year career in Neuroscience, she has recently transitioned to being a full time artist. Currently located in Phoenix Arizona where her work can be seen at several galleries and she can be found live painting at markets and community events. She believes that science, art and spirituality are just different ways of trying to understand the world we live in.

My artwork is shaped by a lifetime of witnessing humanity at its most vulnerable, courageous, joyful, and broken. During my career with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, I encountered moments that revealed both the beauty and the darkness within people. These experiences—profound, complex, and often difficult—now guide my creative voice. Working in watercolor, oil, and charcoal, I focus on portraiture and emotionally driven pieces that explore the tension between sorrow and hope. Each painting is an attempt to honor the people and stories that have stayed with me, translating memory into color, form, and gesture. Through my work, I seek to evoke reflection, compassion, and a deeper understanding of the human spirit.
Artist Biography – Kip Wilson
Kip Wilson is a retired Deputy Chief from the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office whose decades of service exposed her to both the best and worst of humanity—experiences that now deeply influence her art. An emerging Phoenix-based artist working in watercolor, oil, and charcoal, Kip focuses on portraiture and emotionally resonant pieces shaped by the joy, sorrow, and complexity she witnessed throughout her law enforcement career. A wife, mother, and grandmother, she draws on her life experiences to create work that invites reflection and honors the depth of the human spirit.

This work explores peace as a steady, inward state rather than the absence of motion. Inspired by the desert rhythms of Arizona and the contemplative landscapes of France, flowing forms and layered patterns move gently around a quiet, luminous center. The composition invites slow looking, reflection, and a sense of calm grounded in harmony, continuity, and quiet resilience.
Ladee Kalenik Rickard is an Arizona-based photographer and mixed-media artist whose work explores place, memory, and quiet moments of reflection. Drawing inspiration from the landscapes and light of Arizona and her travels in France, she blends photographic imagery with painterly processes to create contemplative works that invite stillness, balance, and renewed ways of seeing.
My work explores peace as an internal architecture rather than a fixed state. Using geometric structures, concentric forms, and layered mark-making, I balance movement with stillness to suggest a quiet center that exists beneath complexity and change. Color and tone function as emotional temperature, while repeated forms invite reflection, breath, and pause. These pieces are meditative spaces, offering viewers a moment to settle, orient, and return to what is shared and essential.

Rickard exhibits widely in juried shows and curated exhibitions throughout Arizona.

I paint outdoors to capture fleeting moments of light, color, and spirit in nature. For me, painting is a spiritual practice—a connection to the divine that matters more than the finished work. Inspired by my Minnesota roots and love of water, I’m especially drawn to the shimmer of light on lakes, the shifting colors of the mountains, and the brilliance of Southwest sunsets.
My landscapes continue to evolve toward abstraction, inviting viewers into the peaceful, restorative experience of nature. Recently, I’ve been exploring the spirit of the West by adding wild horses—symbols of beauty, strength, and freedom. Horses have been part of my life since childhood, and I aim to share the joy, presence, and sense of freedom I felt while riding. I feel blessed to create in the Southwest and remain committed to growth, exploration, and giving back through my art.
Linda Pullinsi moved from the Midwest to Arizona, where she fell in love with the mountains, orange blossoms, and luminous light. Trained in graphic design, she soon turned to painting and teaching, dedicating her life to empowering others through creative expression. For over 30 years, she has served as a teaching artist and mentor with Free Arts for Abused Children, witnessing firsthand the healing power of art.
Linda currently teaches at Scottsdale Artists’ School, offers online courses through LeisurelyLearningwithLinda.com, and leads art retreats across the Southwest. Her award-winning work, collected both privately and corporately worldwide, reflects her love of water, shimmering reflections, and now the spirit of the West through horses, wildlife, and abstraction.
Often found traveling the Southwest in an RV with her husband and two rescue dogs, Linda continues to paint and share her passion for creativity.

Drawing is an emotional experience. These pieces show my late husband, my son and my grandson. All the generations.
Growing up in Chicago gave me access to amazing museums. The Art Institue of Chicago is my first love. I started taking classes there when I was in junior high. I also frequented The Field Museum, where I learned to appreciate history and nature. These institutions have left an indelible mark on me, and are the source of my appreciation for the human form and nature.

“Muriel” was inspired after a friend’s 21 year old son committed suicide and I read The Friendship Bench by Dixon Chibanda, about 14 Grandmothers who helped turn around a Mental Health Crisis and Suicide Epidemic in Zimbabwe. The symbolism in the piece includes: The Friendship Bench, Nature, Meditation (pause), Harmony, Sacred Sound, Wisdom, Water (emotion), Listening, and Connection to one’s Source (Higher Power). The painting represents the artist’s desire to bring peace and support to those struggling with mental health.
Lori Sortino has created 13 paintings of her Muse; “Muriel” being the most recent. Her Muse series paintings all explore different aspects of her soul’s journey and serve to remind her to stay connected to Divine Guidence. Lori is a professional photographer and paints for enjoyment. She has a B.S. in Applied Art and Graphic Design from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo. She is an award winning and published equine photographer, and leads equine photo safaris and retreats in California.

I know that life is hard and that nothing is perfect, due to the mistakes everyone makes, and it’s essential to accept who we truly are. In my work, I render colors and symbols in a style that blends realism and surrealism, allowing me to convey any concept or theme that the world has, especially those related to prejudice, reassurance, and self-identity. Instead of coloring the subject from real life, I usually color my subjects, especially people, with different hues to signify different meanings. My work captures people’s understanding of everyday life and encourages them to make changes that positively impact their lives and those around them.
I am a 24-year-old two-dimensional visual artist living in Phoenix, Arizona. I was born in Los Angeles, California, of Mexican heritage, and was diagnosed with autism. I loved to draw as a child before getting involved in school art clubs. I got inspired in high school when I mastered my drawing and composition skills and attended exhibits before winning awards. Another thing that inspired me to be an artist as a career was when I won first place in an art scholarship and sold my first artwork to my whole high school before graduating. I graduated from Phoenix College with an Associate in Fine Arts with an Emphasis in Art and from Arizona State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and Drawing. My dream is to become an interdisciplinary artist by mastering every two-dimensional art medium and learning curatorial and conservatory skills.

For me, all artists should be able to enjoy creating their art no matter what the medium. We should do what we love and makes us happy. Since I am self taught, I seem to be intuitive and a little quirky with my art. I get inspiration from all around me.
I started participating in fine art shows at the age of 10, continued through high school when I was honored to have my work displayed in the Phoenix Art Museum. I switched to craft festivals for 40+ years before coming back to fine art. I love working in color pencil, ink, acrylic, watercolor, and especially flat loom weaving.
I take inspiration from Nature and then turn it upside down. My style is a little quirky and even kooky but so am I. Colors call to me, even if they are black and white. Being creative is definitely a part of me and keeps me going strong.
My work is colorful yet peaceful. Lots of movement yet restful. Inspired by nature yet a little wacky. I feel joyful and peaceful while I’m creating and wouldn’t trade it for anything. After all, that’s what I want to portray to the viewer. I want them to enjoy my work and feel my joy.

I am an emerging figure artist and trained dancer exploring the language of human position/motion and its ties with emotion and expression. My aim is to instill a deeper somatic understanding in each viewer and establish a feeling of gratitude for the gift of movement and expression. I do this through working with many differing mediums which are carefully chosen to best represent the concept, experience, or physical attributes I want to convey. My style also incorporates interconnected/overlapped lines and forms to push the idea of an inherent interrelation. I also attribute color and shapes to show the physical and emotional feelings produced through the experiences or concepts portrayed. Subtle religious themes can be drawn from many of my works as I believe in a beautiful link between the divine and human form.

Collage has been my predominant art process since childhood. It starts out with examining my collection of STUFF and contemplating the various possibilities. After a lot of juggling, I glue, sew, nail, solder, or digitally manipulate the product to get a pleasing result. I’ve had classes in cabinet-making, stained glass, iconography, drafting, math, spoon-carving, story-telling, Photoshop, macrobiotics, folk dancing, art history, calligraphy, yoga and meditation. All of these life experiences increased my artistic skills, developed my creativity and helped attune me to peace. In joy!
Marcia Losh is a multi-media artist, regularly exhibiting in several states. Her unique process of creating kaleidoscopic images from her photographs has won prizes. She has stained glass work in public locations. Her participation in the Verbal-Visual Exchange in Lewistown, MT, is documented in the catalogs Marcia has produced for eleven years. In 2020, Marcia resumed making 3-dimensional art by sewing, quilting, and gluing recyclables on appliqués. The marriage of fiber and junk ignited a creativity in her wearable art, exemplified by the luxurious white gown she crocheted from plastic bags and exhibited in the Recyclamation Show.

I work in many mediums, drawing, printmaking, collage, assemblage. I love the intuitive process of painting and drawing. Initially I used printmaking to make multiples of my drawings. In the process of planning a print, I have to think about content. In a strange way the strict planning involved in printmaking allows me to find my voice.
This group of prints deal with the idea that if there is no peace there will be no world left. “Eleven Fifty-Eight” refers to how much time is left for the world’s existence. The reference material for “Hope” comes from a medieval illuminated manuscript. Humans always need hope for the future. “Am I My Brother’s Keeper” emphasizes the fact that if we do not look out for each other the world as we know it will die.

My artistic talents began around the age of 5 with finger painting in Kindergarten and when out of school, making funny designs in mud on the farm.
Over the years I tried anything which looked like a challenge, such as, oil painting, wood art, cloth art, metal art, photographic art, torch work glass, glass fusing, stained glass etc.. For some reason, I do not know why, paper art never got my attention. I really appreciate paper art, and have owned various pieces but just never got into doing it.
I am a very busy guy, just ask my wife.
Yes, I suffer from ADHD. Retrospectively, I believe ADHD benefitted me and contributed to my ever growing need for personal expansion and expressionism through art.
I find myself always thirsty for something new and challanging.
Single item with Mixed Media and Abstract Art seemed the most interesting, challenging and satisfying for me.
At this time I am working in Copper, Brass and Stainless Steel used with other media displayed in both realistic and abstract forms of art.
With art there truly is more than one way to skin a cat and more importantly the challenge of creatively displaying it.
I finished the last half of my 52 year career in Health Care as a Registered Nurse. The first half of my career was as a Registered X-Ray and Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
I was in the right place and at the right time throughout my health care career. I was actively involved in both human and animal research with new drug trials, medical devices and surgical procedures. Plus, hospital care of ICU and Emergency Room patients.
I graduated from schools in Illinois (X-Ray Technology), Ohio (Nuclear Medicine Technology) and Wyoming & Colorado (Registered Nurse).
I have worked in Arizona, California, Colorado, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Washington State, British Columbia Canada and Ontario Canada – 52 years of fun, excitement, constantly learning and meeting new folks from all walks of life. There were many patients who I could not help or save however when I put a smile on their face I felt rewarded in making their life better.
I have been involved in multi-media art my entire life, so, it was only natural that following my retirement from health care that I transitioned into the second love of my life – art.

Mixed Media on Panel
48 in x 48 in
$1,500
This series of artworks focuses on the intersection of society and technology. The ideological motifs that motivate each artwork spring from my personal history and tie into larger cultural concerns. My father was a mathematician who was involved in computers and coding before the rise of personal computing in the 1980s. As a child, I was always surrounded and influenced by my father’s obsession with computers, science, and logic. I was raised to have respect and understanding for these topics, though my interests lay elsewhere. As the years progressed I saw the rise of technology from a new convenience to a pervasive, supremely powerful force in everyday life and the economy. This art series explores my perceptions of the spiritual and economic impact that the digital revolution has on humanity.
I use a background collage of printed Wikipedia articles that relate to the theme of the work. I add to that acrylic paint reminiscent of the Pop Art screen printing of the 1960s for a focal point of the work. Then, in a carefully conceived schematic, evocative of a circuit diagram I add gold tape and paint, vacuum tubes, computer punch cards, circuit boards, religious medals, crucifixes, and a variety of symbolic objects that relate to the specific subject of the individual artwork. In these artworks I view our emerging technocracy through a critical lens of philosophy and inequality.
Michael Farmer is a painter and mixed media artist who draws his inspiration from philosophy, religion, politics, and history. While earning his BFA in Media Arts at the University of Arizona, he taught himself the fundamentals of oil painting. He continued on a self-taught track in painting for 20 years, before going back to school to learn traditional techniques. He has exhibited nationally and locally, including at the Alwun House, FOUND:RE, the Herberger Theater, Modified Arts, and the Phoenix Art Museum. He is in private collections in Phoenix, Los Angeles, Austin, New York, Connecticut, and Ireland. He lives and creates art in Mesa, Arizona.

The primany goal for my international travel photography is to encourage people to experience other cultures. I do believe that international travel is the way to world peace. Call me a dreamer, but I am not the only one. This photography was incorporated into an international art orgaization’s social media banner (SERVAS Artists) and was featured in an international artbook – Anthropology of Colour.
About twelve years ago I decided to exhibit my international travel photograph (of Europe, South America, Cuba, Japan, Korea, Australia, New Zealand, United Arab Emirates), some of which I had been incorporated into my travel articles. My initial idea was to exhibit at the Arizona State University and Maricopa County Community college campuses. My goal was to encourage students to think globally, no matter what their respective major. I hope that my photographs, which reflect my travels to many countries, will inspire students to study foreign languages, etc. and to study, travel, volunteer abroad. I joined a local arts group. Since then, I have been in over 85 exhibitions (many of which are solo shows). Several years ago, I was juried into an international art exhibition in the UAE – which I attended. My photography, travel articles and books can be found on my website www.paulacullison.com In 2020, I decided to create In Celebration of Women, a juried art exhibition for local female artists. This was my way to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment which gave women the Right to Vote. I created a blind jury reflective of the cultural diversity in Arizona (Hispanic, Native, Black, Asian and Anglo). We selected 30 artists, as we only had room for that number. The opening event drew a hugh crowd of about 600. I was able to have Rosemarie Dombrowski, Phoenix Poet Laureate, write a commemorative poem, and for the then AZ Secretary of State (now AZ Governor) Katie Hobbs and Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego to issue proclamations. Because of COVID the exhibit then went on line for 6 months. Two years later it was on display at the Arizona Capitol Museum. In 2022, I was asked to create another exhibition for female artists. I decided to Trade Name In Celebration of Women. This time I titled it In Celebration of Women II – Making HERstory. I again created another diverse blind jury. This time we were able to showcase 38 artists. For the 2023 exhibit, Videos of these exhibits are on our Arizona Women’s Partnership website: www.azwp.org I created AZWP in 2002 as an all-volunteer non-profit which awards grants to grass roots charities throughout the state that assist disadvantaged women and children. Since then, we have awarded over $600,000 in grants to over 90 non-profits which assist over 250,000 annually.

These works all call for peace, while proposing cooperation and shared responsibility as the foundation for peace. Peace is not passive, it is an active commitment for cooperation in service of humanity, and to the survival of a fragile, interconnected world.
“PEACE” requires moral responsibility. This work addresses the tension between human intelligence and ethical maturity. Peace depends on reason guided by conscience, cooperation over division, and a shared responsibility for humanity’s future.

Peace begins within the mind. This work reflects the understanding that conflict arises from inner unrest. Through awareness, compassion, and release from attachment, peace emerges naturally, not as an ideal, but as a practiced state of being.

I work with various materials, incorporating, mixed media, found objects, oil, acrylic, and encaustic mediums to explore how mankind interacts with his environment. These works represent how we engage through peace. My extensive use of various techniques and materials allows different expressions representing the numerous idiosyncrasy mankind uses to interact with our world.
As a 4th generation artist RB Anderson realized his love of art at an early age, painting beside his mother in Taos and Santa Fe as she followed her art career. He grew up in New Mexico during the creative cultural history of the 60s where his young life was further influenced by art instructor Frank McCulloch who explained that art was about self expression. A few years later, in Colorado, RB received a BS in commercial art, then moved to San Francisco where he studied at the Institute of Art. There he created art for notable musicians such as Carlos Santana, Herbie Hancock and John Paul Jones. Eventually he headed to Arizona where his desire to improve his art led to various art festivals coffee house installations and juried shows, selling many works to private collectors.

Working primarily in printmaking forms of linoleum relief and serigraphy, though I also have experience in intaglio and lithography. I also incorporate bookbinding with my print media to create artists books for an inclusive dynamic mix of the two artforms. My aspirations as an artist are to first create out of love for both media; the second is to share my artwork with the world around me. As the world is ever changing, so too is my art; I don’t stay with one defining art style or influence. My artwork is grounded upon my cultural roots of being a Hopi as well as being a pop culture nerd, often combining the two for unique creations.
I started participating in art shows in 1985, a year after high school graduation, in major venues: Santa Fe Indian Market, Heard Museum, Museum of Northern AZ, Pueblo Grande Museum, etc.. I’ve won numerous awards as well as being a poster artist for shows, had my art published in a variety of formats and made my art as a career. I stopped doing shows over 10 years to concentrate on my art career of being a High School Art Teacher. Yet, it was the Covid epidemic that brought me back to my art, this time concentrating on printmaking, mainly relief printing, as it is a form that can be accomplished within the home.

Mixed Media Fiber Art

Working primarily with fiber and mixed media, my practice is rooted in the act of making by hand—where process, material, and intuition intersect. I am a self-taught artist specializing in large-scale and custom installations, and I approach each project as an evolving conversation between concept and material. At times my hands lead the work; at others, the materials respond first, guiding new directions and revealing unexpected depth.
My work integrates natural, reclaimed, and architectural materials through techniques including macramé, weaving, construction-based assembly, and emerging mixed-media processes. Texture, form, and spatial interaction are central to my practice, allowing traditional fiber methods to expand into contemporary, immersive environments. Each installation is designed with intention and balance, transforming space into a place of reflection, grounding, and connection.
Based in Scottsdale, Arizona, I draw inspiration from the quiet resilience of the desert landscape and the emotional narratives embedded within place and structure. Themes of resilience, continuity, and human connection are woven throughout my work, often expressed through repetition, repair, and tension—visual metaphors for endurance and renewal.
My background in interior design, architectural drafting, and construction informs both the aesthetic and technical execution of my installations, ensuring clarity, durability, and thoughtful engagement with site. Committed to keeping my work dynamic and responsive, I continually explore new materials and techniques, allowing experimentation to push my practice forward while remaining grounded in fiber as a foundational language.
My work has been featured in regional and national exhibitions, public art installations, and private commissions, including large-scale interactive projects for NASCAR and Phoenix Raceway.

My art doesn’t take life too seriously. It is neither whimsical, nor serious, but falls somewhere in between. There is no deep meaning, nor hidden innuendos in the work I do. That would be far too mysterious. I merely paint because I love the interaction between my colors. Sometimes they love me back, and sometimes they don’t! But together we keep working our magic of light and design.
Sherri Congrove was an A student in all of her school art classes growing up. Her small beginnings in art started when her Mother, also an artist, first put a paintbrush in her hand at the young age of 5 years. She will tell you that she has loved art ever since!
Throughout her art career, she has exhibited her art and sculpture in many prestigious art shows in Arizona, Nevada, and California. And is currently in Galleries and gift shops. She has won numerous awards over time. Her earnest hope is that you enjoy her art as much as she enjoyed creating it for you.

This is a fun seed bead jewelry set featuring happy little people joining hands and doing cartwheels! It is super lightweight, like lace, and shows all the beautiful colors of the rainbow. I love that it creates a statement and looks elegant on the wearer.
I am a glass and seed bead artist, designer, and instructor that enjoys building secret messages and symbolism in my work. While I mainly create wearable jewelry art pieces, I also create wall art, home decor, and memorial pieces that have secrets woven into the designs. I enjoy beadweaving, bead embroidery, and lampwork glass techniques.

In this time of chaotic and worrisome political events resulting in an uncertain outcome for humanity, Peace and inner peace is to be embraced, all the while resisting authoritarian rules, corruptions and inequalities which are threatening our world.
Born and raised in Paris France, I immigrated to Arizona at the age of 18 with my parents and two sisters. Shortly after arriving in Phoenix, Arizona, I was hired as an apprentice at a locally owned sign shop where I became a professional Sign Painter with the help of two tutors, after five years of employment. In 1989, I graduated with honors and received an Associates degree in Commercial Art in Phoenix AZ while working full-time. Solo, in 1990, I opened and operated my own Graphics & Signs shop “Creative Sign Art aka Studio de Paris” in Tempe AZ for a period of five years. I worked at the City of Scottsdale for 23 years in Field Services and Transportation-Traffic Engineering departments. I decided to retire early In March 2018 and pursue my passion; painting.

My art is a product of a retired commercial appraiser looking to occupy his mind with something calming and relaxing. Although having taken art classes in high school in the late 60’s and early 70’s, my life was filled with family and work. It was 2 years ago that a friend inspired me to take an Art Class at the Senior Center in West Phoenix. I have since joined the Phoenix Artists Guild (Artist of the Year in 2025) and Colored Pencil Society of America. I have entered numerous art shows including the Arizona State Fair, WHAM Art Show, Glendale Art Show, Madison Art Show, and Holland Art Show (winning numerous awards).

All of the kites are attached to the strings that Trump is holding. They are flags of countries with dictators or oligarchs. The flags on the right are of democratic countries, the European Union, United Nations, and other peace-related flags. The US flag includes a second shadow flag, as we are now being threatened with an authoritarian government. I separated the red and blue mat trim to illustrate the contrast in our two parties. The American Eagle is still the symbol of freedom for all Americans. I framed the piece in a gold leaf frame to remind us of the gold leaf ballroom replacing the demolished east wing of the White House. This is a stretch from my traditional pencil drawings, but I thought it appropriate for the topic of the art alliance show.

The Proper Use of Majority Rule
Acrylic on canvas
24 in x 36 in
$1,000
Majority rule is used in various settings, including politics, business, education, and local communities. However, in reality, it can sometimes be exploited to gain power or money. Fundamentally, majority rule is not a mechanism for dominating others.
It should be used as a means to synthesize opinions, considering not only oneself but also those around us and society as a whole, so that everyone can live peacefully. The true value of majority rule lies not in conflict, but in “uniting.” It is crucial that people respect one another and utilize majority rule to build a better future.
I was born August 5, 1990, in Nagasaki Prefecture Japan. From childhood, I held a passion for painting and sports, participating in swimming, basketball, and rugby during my school years.
After becoming an adult, while supporting children’s growth as a nursery school teacher, I pursued creative activities such as making wedding welcome boards as a hobby.
In 2023, I moved to the United States and, with my wife’s support, embarked on a full-fledged career in art. Focusing primarily on the Zentangle style, I aim to create works that bring smiles to peoples’ faces. Utilizing my creativity and originality, I strive to produce high-quality art and provide custom art tailored to clients’ needs.

My work explores the ideas of finding and embracing your inner peace to share with the world. Using a mix of dark imagery and bright bold color I show people that even the darkness can be full of light and beauty. A hope that is inside all of us that we can share. Through the use of mixed mediums I invite people to not only see with their eyes, but feel and touch.
Whitley Cuevas is a mixed medium artist formerly from Illinois but now based in Phoenix, AZ. A self taught artist, she continually tries new mediums and methods to bring her visions to life. Her work has been featured in several gallery shows and been awarded ribbons for her unique use of color and media. light asks nothing and offers no resolution
I have been dedicated to creative photography for over five decades. Rooted in both darkroom and digital traditions, my work reveals the subtle play between light, shadow, and form. My photographs are less about recording a scene than about distilling its essence—quiet moments that speak to memory, texture, and place. Based in Phoenix, I continue to merge craft and vision, always striving to produce images that honor photography’s history while embracing its future.
it simply remains, inviting attention
peace begins as an instinct
before it becomes an idea
embracing light invokes a longing
that cannot be seized
only acknowledged
peace enters
when the reach loosens
and presence takes its place

This ceramic relief honors Oliver, a beloved companion whose presence shaped the quiet rhythms of home. Created in the wake of his passing, the piece reflects the deep peace found in sharing daily life with our furred, finned, and feathered family. In form and texture, it holds both remembrance and gratitude—an acknowledgment that peace often arrives through devotion, routine, and the wordless companionship of those who walk beside us for a time.
David Lloyd Bradley is a ceramic artist whose work explores presence, material honesty, and the quiet language of form. Working primarily in clay, he is drawn to processes that emphasize touch, texture, and the physical relationship between maker and material. His practice is grounded and pragmatic, often reflecting themes of home, devotion, and the everyday moments that hold meaning.

Tess Mosko Scherer is a mixed-media artist whose work centers on contemplation, balance, and the inner landscapes that shape daily life. Drawing from a lifelong engagement with pattern, symbolism, and mindful repetition, her work invites stillness and reflection.
Her more than 40-year career in the arts includes work as a professional artist, gallerist, and arts leader. She currently serves as Executive Director of the Arizona Art Alliance and has held leadership roles with the World Academy for the Future of Women. She lives and works in Phoenix with her artist husband, maintaining studios on their urban farm oasis.
Balance reflects the quiet practice of balance in everyday life. A solitary figure stands poised atop the layered responsibilities of home, love, livelihood, knowledge, and time. Though the structure beneath her is precarious, her presence remains calm and attentive.
Peace, here, is not the absence of responsibility, but the steady awareness that allows one to remain centered while life continues to move and shift.

The mandala has long been a source of stillness and meaning in my life. Its symmetry and repetition invite a gentle slowing—a pause where breath, thought, and movement come into quiet alignment.
In creating these mandalas, I enter a space of attentive calm, where repetition becomes meditation and observation replaces effort. What emerges is a sense of peace found in rhythm and balance—a reminder that within stillness, clarity and quiet color can unfold.

I wonder if the world is round, so that the horizon full of beautiful skies, sunsets and sunrise, can mask the future with a sort of disguise? If we knew the landscape beyond with treacherous mountains to climb and lonely roads to travel, would we find ourselves unable to go on? But can we hold back the horizon anymore than we can hold back the tides? Or will that horizon just come up to meet us at our feet with another day to end and another one to greet? So can we climb the peak together, hand-in-hand along the road, find love and restoration, rewriting stories we once told? “
I find peace in the process of making art. I believe that my work conveys a peaceful uplifting feeling embedded in the canvas and every drop of paint, with the hopes of creating a calmer more peaceful world.

I am a Phoenix based artist working in acrylic on canvas and clay sculpture. I received my BFA from Arizona State University and my MFA from the Ohio State University.

My paintings are explorations of peace and compassion through abstraction. Each canvas is built from multiple layers of color and texture, reflecting the complexity of human emotion and the quiet resilience of the spirit. Layers overlap, interact, and sometimes obscure one another—mirroring how moments of calm, understanding, and empathy arise amid the richness and tension of life. Color becomes my language of feeling, conveying warmth, openness, and connection. The abstract forms invite viewers to slow down, reflect, and inhabit a space where peace is not a static state, but an ongoing, layered experience. Through these works, I hope to offer a visual sanctuary—a place to pause, breathe, and consider how compassion can be cultivated, layer by layer, in our own lives. There is no better time than today to step back and invite moments of compassion to surface. I hope these images offer a pause, reminding us of our shared humanity and a renewed sense of peace.
-Sara Reinstein Becker
Sara Reinstein Becker is a mixed media abstract artist based in Phoenix, Arizona. She studied and received her BFA at Arizona State University. Over the years she has developed a practice centered on experimentation with color, texture, and intuitive mark-making. Sara has exhibited throughout the downtown Phoenix arts scene in both solo and group shows. Her paintings vary in subject matter yet are consistent in her layering of colors both bold and muted. The depth of her imagery is created through the interaction between density and transparency of color. She creates the textured paintings through a lengthy process of layering both acrylic paint and medium on wood and canvas. Much of her work is abstracted from her personal environment and most often convey a sense of joy. She brings to her paintings her life experiences as a wife, mother, grandmother, yogi and graphic designer. Sara currently works from her studio in Phoenix.
