Meet the Jurors….

Dani Godreau

Dani Godreau is a feminist artist best known for her exploration of women’s traditional crafts and domestic duties through paper cutting. Her work expands the definition of drawing by creating line and form with incisions and shadow, honoring the global tradition of paper cutting and highlighting undervalued women’s labor. Dani graduated from Florida State University with a BFA in Painting and a BA in Art History, later earning an MFA in Drawing and Painting from Arizona State University. She received funding from the Nathan Cummings Travel Grant and Shangyuan Artist Residency for research in Beijing and Foshan on Chinese folk art and traditional paper cutting. Currently, Dani serves as the Community Arts Coordinator for the City of Tempe, where she plays a crucial role in fostering visual arts access and fluency within Tempe neighborhoods. Her responsibilities include developing and managing over 40 free arts events annually.

Zach Valent

Zach Valent is an interdisciplinary artist who lives in Mesa Arizona and works valley wide. His artwork ranges in size from small handheld objects to large-scale public artworks. Valent received an MFA in studio arts from Arizona State University in 2017 and a BFA in sculpture from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Valant’s work has been admired, exhibited, and collected internationally. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Nathan Cummings Travel Fellowship, The Rickert Ziebold Trust Award, and a Windgate Charitable Foundation for the Arts Award. In 2019 Valent cofounded Lot 14, a collective art studio located in Tempe Arizona. Valent works as a full-time artist and is currently focused on large scale sculpture and public art.
