Scratchboard is a medium in which the artist uses an ink-covered board (usually black) and scratches away an image. The resulting artwork is made up of white lines on a black surface. When executed in a stylized manner it can give the impression of woodblock or linocut printing, and when a realistic technique is employed is capable of capturing exceptionally fine detail.
