  A New Beginning

A new beginning - something that the incarcerated boys at the Arizona

Department of Juvenile Corrections Eagle Point School in Buckeye

could only dream of, but that the Arizona Art Alliance made possible.

n 2002, Arizona Art Alliance was approached by staff members of Arizona

Department of Juvenile Corrections, for volunteers to teach workshops at

Eagle Point School in Buckeye.    Through 2006, approximately 200 boys,

ages 12 to 18, had taken this program, developed by an Alliance member.

The program fostered artistic pride by encouraging the bots to express their

emotions through art.    The objectives of the program were successfully

completed in 2007 by the Alliance volunteers.  They are  currently

discussing developing this great program again at the Adobe Mountain

facility.

Thank you Arizona Diamondbacks and Arizona Cardinals, for the

assistance you have provided in making this a very successful program.

Extra Special Art

Since its founding, members of the Arizona Art Alliance have been providing this Special Education Alternative Art Program for the physically

and mentally challenged students at all grade levels at the Cave Creek Unified School District.  The Desert Artists member organization

donates the volunteer teachers and supplies for this hands-on, one-on-one program for the children.  Some of the students in this artistic development program have

participated from elementary through high school.

Caring Thru Art

This art education program developed by an Arizona Art Alliance member organization, Desert Sage Artists, is for the seniors, disabled

and Alzheimer residents of Life Care of Paradise Valley in Phoenix. Volunteers are committed to providing time each week ensuring

residents receive a better quality of life under the most difficult conditions.

Spirit of Art

The Paradise Valley Artists League adopted the Valley of the Sun School. While the school has an art teacher in its midst, there is no funding

for art supplies.  The group has been collecting and donating art supplies and funds to purchase additional supplies, with the assist and support

of Arizona Art Alliance.  As artists, we are pleased to serve underprivileged areas of our community and to see the excitement and the emotional

development that results from providing these opportunities.

Budding Artists

An innovative art program founded and spearheaded by Mesa Art League president, C. J. Rider. Designed

to offer quality art workshops and instruction to at-risk children in our communities.   The

goal is to create a sense of pride and personal self-esteem by developing visual, motor, and

thought skills while creating artwork to take home or to hang in a MAL event.  Mesa Art League

volunteers meet once a week at Save The Family Foundation where they encourage these

precious children and give them a sense of self through enjoyable and inventive arts encounters.

Art Instructors Needed

Would you like to share your experience as an artist and at the same time give a young man an opportunity he may never have had?

Arizona Art Alliance is looking for artists who are interested in teaching incarcerated boys at the Adobe Mountain School on the I17 and Pinnacle Peak Road.  The program is planning to teach once a week for an hour, starting in January of 2008.  With enough volunteers, teachers can teach once a week or as little as once a month.  Two Art Alliance teachers at a time will be doing art projects  tied to the curriculum the boys are learning.   We will also hope to do a mural type project.  Teachers will have to be finger printed and drug tested.

AAA did a program at The Eagle Point Juvenile Facility in Buckeye for 4 years that was very well received and extremely rewarding  for the artists.

This is an opportunity to give a young person a chance at a life changing experience.
